Free Wind Power For Your Home – Just Add Technology

February 8th, 2010 by Martin Loader

I love the sound of the word free but there is always a catch to it that ends up costing you.

The absolute truth is, that at the moment, the wind is free. I say at the moment because it wouldn’t surprise me if the Government try to put (no pun intended) a windfall tax on it.

The problem is, that to get benefit from free wind power for your home, you have to make a small financial outlay. This outlay could be to buy one of the many ready-made home wind generators that are available on the internet today.

These individual wind power for home use systems start at about $600 and can be satisfactory but may fail due to constant buffeting from the wind and other climatic factors. Better value for money would be the wind powered home generators that come in between $2000 to $3000. These are far sturdier and should create free wind power for your home for many years to come, just a little pricey for most families.

The savings on your power bills will be well worth the outlay and the cost would be recouped in a few short months.

It is possible to sell surplus energy back to the National Grid so you could even end up in profit. This is really possible. Imagine having several wind powered home generators all whirling around creating energy to sell back to the Grid! Money spinner?

The problem with this situation is the financial cost that you would incur having to buy all of the wind powered home generators.

There is a solution to this problem.

Build your own!

There are many low cost individual wind power for the home plans that can be bought today. These plans explain in great detail how to source your materials (mainly from a hardware store), build your wind turbine, set it up and get it working, the whole process from start to finish. The total cost of materials is about $200. Plans about $50.

The thing is, now the plans are in your hands, there is nothing to stop you making many of these wind powered home generators. You can really start to sell power back to the National Grid if you desired. Or what about sorting out your neighbours for power?

Whichever individual free wind power for your home system that you chose to buy, it would be worth more than the financial cost of purchasing it in the first place. What I mean by that is, if we could as individuals, all use the wind as an alternative power source to fossil fuels, we could really make a difference in reducing the continuing onset of global warming. So it’s not only a financial benefit to us, it’s a case of survival.
